BEIJING, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- China's National Meteorological Center (NMC) on Tuesday continued to issue a yellow alert for rainstorms and a blue alert for severe convective weather, as multiple regions of the country are set to face extreme weather in the following 24 hours.

From 8 a.m. Tuesday to 8 a.m. Wednesday, heavy to torrential rain will sweep across provinces and regions including Heilongjiang, Shaanxi, Chongqing, Hubei, Yunnan, Guangxi and Guangdong, according to the NMC.

These regions will see short-term heavy rainfall, with maximum hourly precipitation reaching up to 50 millimeters, and even exceeding 80 millimeters in some areas, accompanied by severe convective weather such as thunderstorms, gales or hail, it said.

The NMC advised local authorities to implement traffic controls on rain-battered road sections, suspend outdoor operations in open areas, and evacuate residents from high-risk zones and dilapidated housing.

The center also renewed a blue alert for severe convective weather on Tuesday, warning that regions including Inner Mongolia, northeast China and north China are expected to be hit by thunderstorm gales or hail.

China has a four-tier color-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe, followed by orange, yellow and blue. ■
